The Bestway Group was founded and is led by Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE, H PK. Sir Anwar was the proud recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1992 and was also awarded a Knights Bachelor in 1999 in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to business and the world of charity.
In March 2000, Sir Anwar Pervez was awarded Hilal-E-Pakistan, a top civil award by the Pakistani Government for services to the Pakistani nation.
Sir Mohammed Anwar Pervez OBE is Managing Director of Bestway Cash & Carry which operates about 30 retail grocery stores and several wholesale grocery outlets throughout the UK. Bestway has grown from a single Asian foods store in 1976 into a chain of larger grocery retailers with a wide product selection, including the company's own proprietary brand products which are sold under the label Bestin. Bestway Holdings is now one of the ten biggest privately-owned companies in the UK. Sir Anwar also has business interests in property, importing and cement.
Born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 1935, Sir Anwar came to the UK at the age of twenty-one in the 1950s. After working as a Bradford bus conductor, he opened his first corner shop in 1962 in London's Earl's Court. Recognising the potential of the wholesale market, he established the first of his many cash and carry outlets in Park Royal in 1976.
